Opening a Daycare - The Equipment and Materials Needed

Opening a Daycare - The Equipment and Materials Needed

Children need lots of love and attention and every daycare facility's goal is to provide this in lieu of the parents. This is why individuals who want to open a daycare must be well prepared for the service, providing their charges with everything necessary to keep them comfortable and safe while keeping them mentally stimulated. This can be done through an excellent staff, a good management plan and of course, the right materials close at hand.Art Materials.Crayons, papers, glue, child-safe scissors, clay and various other art materials should be kept ready at all times.Art time is something that daycare facilities should encourage to develop the creativity of the children.Note however that some art materials might prove dangerous when ingested which is why children should be thoroughly supervised during this time.Age Appropriate Toys. The toys should be free of small parts that could prove as choking hazards. Some of the most common toys found in daycare facilities include Lego, puzzles, fire trucks and dolls.Ideally though, the daycare should be able to provide toys that are educational or would help hone the child's skills and talents.A good example of these would be musical toys, perhaps encouraging children to sing or conduct concerts during playtime.Play Area - Swings and Crawling Spaces.Art and toys aren't enough considering the amount of energy children have. Before trying to open a daycare, owners should first make sure that there is ample space for a make shift playground.Ideally, this should contain slides, swings, tunnels, climbing area and other facilities that would keep an energetic child satisfied.Note that the play area should be free o sharp edges or any loose parts.Beds and Cots.Provide the children with a comfortable sleeping area with proper padding to keep them protected.Note that the bed area should be separate from the rest of the room and kept clean at all times.Clean Bathroom and Towels. There's no question that children are prone to getting dirty no matter what they do.Daycare facilities should be prepared for eventualities like this by providing children with a clean bathroom, towels and even extra clothes for the children.Snack Time Equipment.Provide the children with dishware made in plastic to ensure that there wouldn't be any breakage during snack time.High chairs are necessary for daycare facilities taking care of younger children.Diapering Area. This is crucial for daycare facilities catering to infants. The diapering area must be far away from the other areas of the room while being close to the faucet. This would make it easier for the staff to clean and sanitize the area to ensure that the children remain safe at all times.Of course, those aren't the only things needed before trying to open a daycare center.Note that some things must NOT be present in the room such as hazardous materials, wide open doors or easily accessible wires and electric sockets. For a more thorough idea of how to start a daycare, refer to the local business administration for their rules and regulations.

Legos Building Blocks - A Gift That Never Grows Old

Legos Building Blocks - A Gift That Never Grows Old

Legos have become a household word.At Christmas a Lego set of some kind is almost certain to be under the tree or in some lucky child's stocking.Throughout the year it is a gift of choice for a busy relative to grab and wrap and give to a grateful nephew or niece. It is an understatement to call these magic blocks toys. They are the seeds of a young engineer's expanding imagination. The history of Lego reads like a Phoenix rising from the ruins of a wooden toy factory in Denmark. As foretold in the popular movie titled the "Graduate", plastic would become the substance used to build the future in many fields especially the world of toys.If not for the development of plastic in the early 50s the Lego factory may have passed into history after the fire. But the imaginative staff there saw a future in this magic substance. If any fault could be found with Legos it may be that in some homes the kids may have to fight with dad to have access to the Legos sets. Many adults who were introduced to Legos as a child have never lost their fascination with these building blocks. Many of these people have not only the original sets of their youth but hundreds more added throughout the years. Some Legos collectors are fanatics about obtaining each and every set as it was produced. The variety of the Legos products is mind boggling.Want to build a fire truck. No problem.Maybe a police command center is more to your taste. They got one.If yo are a Star Wars fan you can spend hours assembling Legos sets. The beauty of these sets is after becoming acquainted with the basic assembly and perhaps following the instructions to build a dedicated set or two, the childs, or, dads imagination will know no bounds.Build a castle today and a space ship tomorrow. There is no discrimination with this toy.The female architects of tomorrow can began their career with the Lego Pink Brick set.For the really ambitious there is the Ultimate Building Set with over 400 pieces.Something for everyone from stocking stuffers to wagon loads and at prices that will not break the budget.Perhaps as you near the end of your shopping list and have run out of ideas for those last boys and girls of almost any age, one of these special Legos sets could solve your problem.

This is definitely a pricey LEGO set but it is worth it. There are lots of pieces and they build into many things such as space ship/cars/planes. There are lots of minifigures to play with too. My 5 year old loves building it and then role playing with it. It is a lot of fun and helps develop skills in building and following the instructions. Afterwards, he has a toy to play with. Some part of the set falls apart but my son doesn't mind putting it back together again. Quoting the ADU Captain: "Let's go get 'em boys!"

Great toy! Doesn't fall apart once built as easily as many Lego models do. They seem to be made to display in general rather than play w/ once built. My 5 yr old loved it.

The moment my son saw this, he decided it was his #1 choice for his birthday. He put it together first thing and it has been in play almost every day over the past two weeks.

LEGO Agents Mobile Command Center

Product Description

Use all of your resources in this 1,154-piece set to prevent the escape of Dr. Inferno.

Amazon.com Review

Capture the evil Dr. Inferno and keep tabs on his henchmen with Lego Agents Set 8635. Tons of secret spy technology is packed inside the Mobile Command Center truck to ensure that each mission becomes a unique, imaginative adventure. This building set contains small parts and complex instructions, so it is recommended for ages 8 to 14. And like all advanced Lego sets, it also holds the potential to keep creative adults entertained for hours.

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Mobile Command Center packed with spy technology

The Bad: Hinges can come apart during transport

In a Nutshell: Fun building set inspires action-packed imaginative play

At a Glance

Ages: 8 to 14
Requires: (includes batteries)

Dr. Inferno is trapped in the jail. View larger.

With its hatches closed, the command center looks like an ordinary truck. View Larger.
Your Mission: Prevent Dr. Inferno's Escape
In undercover mode, the mobile command center looks like a big gray and blue tractor trailer. But look closely and you'll find hatches that open up to reveal an interior packed with the latest spy technology and top-secret information. There's even a state-of-the-art prison cell designed to hold the evil Dr. Inferno, as well as a working mission brief projector that uses an LED light to display Inferno's image on the wall.

Seven included Lego figures, a jet plane, and two cars make it easy to set up epic battles between the command center's employees and Dr. Inferno's henchmen, who have arrived to set him free. The Spy Clops figure, along with Gold Tooth, and Agents Chase, Fuse, Charge, and Trace, are uniquely detailed and ready for action. Inside the center, a tool shop, loading crane, and hidden weapons bay packed with missiles and blasters are in place to keep them busy.

Crafting the Command Center
With 20 bags containing 1,154 pieces and four books of instructions, the Mission 6: Mobile Command Center was the biggest construction project that our Lego tester had ever undertaken. In about eight hours he completed the assembly, took it for a test drive, and secured Dr. Inferno in the high-tech jail cell. Like with all Lego sets, the instructions include here provide colorful step-by-step images that make it easy for any diligent builder to create the detailed Command Center and it's accessory vehicles. Although, when our Command Center was finished, we did discover that one sticker was missing.

This set gets great fun-factor ratings, due in large part to the opening doors that hide all the spy technology, and the fact that this mobile base is on wheels and can go anywhere. Our tester also appreciated the way most of the smaller vehicles fit neatly inside the Command Center's compartments, the super-cool mission brief projector, and the moving crane. The detailed mini figures and the missiles hidden in the grill of the truck got the thumbs up, too. Overall, we found only one minor design flaw. When the Command Center is assembled and is pulled around by the truck cab, some of the hinges that hold the compartment doors in place come apart easily, causing play to pause while they are reattached.

Whether your child uses the Command Center by itself or as part of an existing Lego collection, it's sure to inspire hours of fun. We also appreciate the way that Lego systems never limit imaginative play. All the cool hardware that makes up the Mobile Command Center can be used to build any structure or vehicle your child can dream up. And time has shown that building projects are a great way to inspire cooperative play between friends and siblings, too.

What's in the Box
1,154 Lego pieces and four instruction booklets.

  • The task for special agent builders: Build super security measures into the mobile HQ to prevent his escape
  • Agent tip: Because a full attack is expected to unfold at HQ, use as many of the truck-based resources to ward off villain infiltration
  • The HQ center is equipped with in tell center, tool bay, repair shop, mini jet boat,
  • Includes five vehicles and seven minifigures
  • Contains 1,154 pieces
  • The HQ center is also equipped with video surveillance plane, disarming vehicle, mini boat, jet, radars, missiles and laser projector screen

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding LEGO set !! Great design and tons of fun., October 31, 2008

I have been a LEGO fan all my life. I am in my 30's and I remember owning just one LEGO set (221 pieces which I used to count before and after building). It was an old Castle set with 4 figures and a siege tower. It was my favorite toy. So to buy a set with so many figures and pieces for my son was very exciting for me after all these years.

My son is 4 years old and he loves playing with his LEGOs (Duplo). We build everything together and playing this with him sure beats playing any video game or anything else.

This set is particular is outstanding. There are just so many things that you can make in this set. We have not yet made the whole truck as we make one small thing everyday. With over 1000 pieces, it can take a while to put together (especially with an impatient 4 year old). He is very happy with just the small cars and planes that we have put together so far. I look forward to putting the truck together and make it all come together. The figures are so... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Really cool lego set, December 27, 2008
A Kid's Review

This review is from my 7 1/2 year old son:

I think it is really cool that this set comes with a whole bunch of little vehicles. I thought the little plane that launches from the agents truck was really cool and I really also liked the mechanical arm that lifts the truck and the little projector. The hidden hatch that stores the vehicles under the truck is really cool and it has a cool jail for the bad guys. This is a really awesome lego set, other people should get this set for their kids. There is one problem with the roof attaching, you should remove the track piece on the roof and it will work properly.

I'M SORTA SURPRISED BY THE POOR REVIEWS GIVEN BY SOME OF THE OTHER PURCHASERS. MY HUSBAND BUILT THIS FOR OUR SON WHO IS JUST 3.5 YEARS OLD, AND EVEN AS A PRESCHOOLER HE'S ABLE TO PLAY WITH IT EVERY SINGLE DAY SINCE CHRISTMAS. YES, IT'S NOT AS DURABLE AS SOME OTHER TOYS (LIKE MAYBE FROM FISHER PRICE OR LITTLE TIKES)... BUT, IT LEGOS! IT'S MADE OUT OF A BAJILLION TINY PIECES. I JUST EXPECTED THAT WE'D BE RE-BUILDING AND RE-DESIGNING IT AS WE WENT ALONG. AND, IT TEACHES OUR SON NOT TO GET FRUSTRATED OVER SUCH THING. IF SOMETHING COMES UNDONE... WE GO WITH THE FLOW AND FIX IT, OR COME UP WITH OUR OWN NEW AND IMPROVED DESING. THAT'S THE BEAUTY~!

AND THE NUMEROUS FEATURES; COOL FUNCTIONING PROJECTION SCREEN, STORAGE COMPARTMENT FOR NUMEROUS SMALLER VEHICLES, ESCAPE JAIL, COMPUTER SCREENS IN THE COCKPIT... ALL VERY AMAZING AND WELL-DESIGNED. THERE IS SO MUCH FOR THE IMAGINATION TO DO HERE... MY SON IS ALWAYS COMING UP WITH NEW ADVENTURES FOR THE AGENTS!
